An expert on the history and development of the Canadian furniture industry says the Canadian industry has never recovered from the recession of the early 1990s.
The industry is in the midst of a period of rapid growth, as more Canadians seek out new products, and the market is rapidly expanding.
“The whole thing is a roller coaster ride,” said Richard Goguen, the president and CEO of Leather Institute of Canada.
“At one point it was just a niche market, and that niche market has exploded.
Now it’s really a big, global market, a global market,” he said.
“It’s really in a globalised and globalised place now.”
The leather reclining chairs made by Louis Vuitton, which has made a comeback in recent years, are now considered the world’s best-selling brand.
Goguens point to the resurgence of Louis Vuit’s luxury leather goods in the U.S. as evidence that there is a growing appetite for Canadian products.
“There is a demand for leather chairs, and we have a market opportunity to sell that as well as other things like the other furniture brands that we sell in the United States,” he told CBC News.
But, he said, there are still “very, very, very few people who are really comfortable in a leather chair.”
While there have been some modest sales in Canada, and a lot of companies have stepped up their offerings, Gogusen said it’s still difficult for consumers to find the leather recline chairs.
“It’s not that they’re not good, it’s that people aren’t comfortable in them,” he explained.
“And they don’t fit the market very well.”
The resurgence of the Louis Vuits leather chairs was a boon for the company, Guguen said, but it wasn’t the only reason why the company decided to make the change.
“They’re not a niche brand anymore, they’re a big company, and they’re very global,” he added.
“And they have to diversify their product range.”
A year ago, Louis Vuittes luxury leather chairs sold for $1,250 on eBay, a price that would have been unthinkable a decade ago.
Now, they sell for $700, and many retailers are selling them for as much as $10,000.
In Canada, the company has been selling the chairs at $2,400 a pair for several months now, and is now offering them for $2.50 on eBay.
The company says the chairs are “the perfect solution” for many Canadians.
“If you’re going to buy one, you’ve got to get a pair, and it’s a great price for what it is,” said Goguin.
“I think it’s good for the consumer to look at it.
It’s something that has been around for a long time.
I don’t think there’s a new market for it.”
But for many, buying a Louis Vuite chair isn’t a luxury item.
The leather chairs are sold at the upscale boutique Louis Vuille in Toronto, which is one of the few places in the world where the chairs can be purchased for under $100.
“Our clients are very much into the brand, they want it to be their signature piece,” said Lauren Buss, a staff sales associate at Louis Vuitzes.
“They’re also looking for a chair that is comfortable, and has a great finish.
We’re not sure it’s the perfect option.”
For some people, buying Louis Vuites is a luxury product.
In a survey, many customers said the chairs were “worth the money” and they would recommend the chair to friends.
The chair craze, however, is not the only thing that has driven up the price of Louis Vueites leather chairs.
Many companies are also selling Louis Vuiteras and Louis Vuitoras-branded shoes online, including Louis Vuithans and Louis Vues.
Guguens also sees the rising prices as part of the “cultural shift” in the industry.
“We’ve been seeing a shift in what we’re seeing in terms of fashion, and so it’s definitely something that we have to embrace,” he admitted.
“As we continue to see more and more people want a certain style of furniture, I think we have something to offer to that segment of our audience.”
